Janet's Nephew Jason

Janet's fist book Animal Fair is a story about a young boy being taken to the Animal Fair by a friendly Panda. When Janet was drawing that book (1980), her nephew Jason was just the right age. Here he is being woken up by the Panda.

Understanding Characters

When Janet got the manuscript for To Market, To Market she knew she needed a special character to be the woman. She called her friend Coleen Salley, a famous storyteller and children's book expert from New Orleans, and asked for help. Coleen was perfect!

Ted as a Grandmother?

Sometimes Janet just needs to see people in a position to work out some early ideas. In this case her husband (and webmaster) Ted plays the part of the grandmother from The Gates of the Wind. The young girl in that book is Janet's daughter Linze

The Very Old Father

We know Janet draws things around the house in her books. She also draws people she knows. Here her father poses as Noah for How The Manx Cat Lost It's Tail.

A Cow on the Couch

In To Market, To Market the Cow disappears. What Coleen, the woman in the story, doesn't know is that the Cow went to take a nap on the couch. As you can see in this picture, the cow had a had time fitting on this couch in Janet's Living Room! How many different positions did the Cow try?
